Notes on the Triballi of Skylitzes
In the chronography of John Skylitzes, the Triballi (Treballi) population is mentioned several times, which most of the exegesis considers to be one and the same with the Serbs. The interpretation proves a superficial and analytical lack of reading of Skylitzes’ text, because he presents the Triballi in question as opponents of the Serbs. The geographical details are also clear: their land is the old Dacia Ripensis (Timoc region), an area that was inhabited, in pre-Roman antiquity, by Thracian Triballi.
