The Roman remains from the Old Orșova can no longer be archeologically researched due to the increase of the Danube water level that forms the accumulation lake of the Porțile de Fier I hydrotechnical project, starting with year 1970. Unfortunately, the rescue excavations that
preceded this year failed to be completed and published accordingly. For this reason, the National Museum of Banat aims to reopen the research of this important port-town in the Danube Gorge, through a series of conferences and thematic exhibitions, which allow through modern methods to revaluate the old archaeological research in the area and scientifically publish unique materials from old museum collections.
