In the Late Roman Limes system Mehadia was used to defend from the north the city of Dierna-Orşova. Archaeological researches of the roman camp from point „Zidina”indicates a military garrison in the fourth century AD. However Mehadia, as to the interpretation of a drawing of Count Marsigli assumed that there was a quadriburgium in the area. Currently online access to the habsburgmaps of eighteenth-century helps us to understand correctly Marigli’s drawing and accept that there isn’t a roman quadriburgium by Mehadia in that place just an austrian fort instead.
