Is it about the Greeks?
There are many refferences to Greeks and Greek culture in Satyricon. The characters of Petronius seems to understand very well the need for knowing the Greek language and culture and tries hard to pass as educated people, but in the same time they sometimes cannot stop using derogatory terms in refference to the Greeks. The article suggests that this ambivalent attitude is used by the author to satirize some negative behaviors in the roman society which he considers as influenced directly by the Greeks.
